In no surprise the Virginia Cavaliers are receiving several post season recognition, including UVA head coach Tony Elliott. Elliott was voted ACC Coach of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
Elliott, who is in his fourth year as the Cavaliers’ coach, helped lead his side to a 10-2 (7-1 ACC) finish in the regular season – this is only the program’s second-ever 10-win since and the first since 1989.
The Virginia coach was the overwhelming pick for the honor receiving 57 votes out of a panel of 65 media members – runner up Wake Forest’s Jake Dickert picked up 13 votes.
UVA achieved its largest overall win improvement from year to year since 1986 (3-8) to 1987 (8-4). The only other time in program history that UVA improved by five games from one season to the next was in 1892 (3-2-1) to 1893 (8-3). The Cavaliers finished 5-7 overall in 2024.
Elliott was the fastest UVA head coach to at least clinch a share of first place in the final ACC standings.
Shout out to the Front Office
Virginia assistant general manager for football Justin Speros was also honored on Thursday. Speros was named one of four finalists for Football Scoop’s Personnel Director of the Year Award. He helped put together a 32-man transfer class last offseason, a transfer class which included transfers like, QB Chandler Morris, RB J’Mari Taylor, and DE Mitchell Melton.
Players honored
Earlier this week, players were also selected in the All-ACC names – 15 to be exact.
UVA’s 15 selections are the program’s most in a season since the 1996 team boasted 16 honorees. This year also marks the fifth straight in which UVA was represented on the league’s first-team list.
