A recent rip-off was uncovered at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, with vigilance officers detecting large-scale irregularities within the procurement of silk dupattas over a ten-year interval from 2015 to 2025.
After the adulterated laddu controversy and the Parakamani case, officers discovered that pretend silk dupattas had been equipped regardless of being billed as a one hundred pc polyester-silk combine. The rip-off was estimated to have triggered a lack of over Rs 54 crore.
In line with officers, a contractor equipped round 15,000 dupattas at Rs 1,389 per piece whereas claiming they had been silk. Samples despatched for testing to 2 laboratories, together with the Central Silk Board, confirmed that the dupattas had been made from polyester and never silk.
Reacting to the pattu vastralu (silk dupatta) rip-off, TTD Chairman BR Naidu stated, “Now we have come to know that there have been just a few discrepancies within the buying division. Paying attention to this, we’ve handed over the investigation to the ACB,” he stated.
The scandal surrounding the sacred Tirupati laddu prasadam broke in September 2024, when the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh alleged that laddus distributed on the temple may include animal fats or adulterated ghee, as a substitute of pure cow ghee.
In response, a Particular Investigation Workforce (SIT), beneath the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was constituted to probe the availability chain and high quality of ghee equipped to TTD.
The Parakamani case traces again to April 29, 2023, when a clerk at a temple-associated mutt close to Tirumala, CV Ravi Kumar, was caught stealing contributions made by devotees into the “Srivari Hundi” donation field. In line with prosecutors, this theft concerned cash collected as choices on the temple.
