New Safety Technology Introduced by Cole/Jefferson City OEM


The Cole County and Jefferson City Office of Emergency Management has implemented a new livestreaming technology.

The new system is designed to enhance community awareness, improve emergency communication, bring transparency and support more informed decision making during critical incidents, according to a Cole County and Jefferson City news release.

The system also allows the office to broadcast real-time camera feeds paired with live weather radar imagery, according to the news release. 

Depending on the circumstances, viewers may see live video footage, with or without active weather alerts, according to the news release. Viewers may also see scrolling warning banners, displaying real time watches and warnings issued for the area, and a radar-only cutaway screen, which is an option for the user to disable the live camera for operational or safety reasons.

The system also offers significant advantages for internal emergency operations, according to the news release. 

When the Emergency Operations Center is activated for major incidents, the technology allows responders and decision-makers to view on the ground live footage from affected areas, according to the news release. 

The enhanced viewing technology enables faster assessments, resource deployment and coordinated action, according to the news release. 

The live footage can be viewed through a secure platform, according to the news release. 

Residents can watch the system in action at 4:30 p.m. Saturday during the 86th Annual Jaycees Christmas Parade, according to the news release. 

Residents are encouraged to sign up for Smart911 by texting SMART911 to 67283. Smart911 is a customizable emergency alert system that allows users to choose which notifications they want to receive.
