Recently, our Managing Editor, Josh Petry, host of the “Hoodie Chroniclez” Podcast, sat down for an exclusive interview with former NFL player and two-time Super Bowl Champion Booger McFarland. The two would discuss current players entering the NFL who represent their brand, ACL injuries, and NFL coaching hot seats, among other topics related to the NFL. When asked about some of the coaches that were already on the NFL hot seat, such as Mike McDaniel, Raheem Morris, and possibly Mike Tomlin, McFarland would say, “I think Mike Tomlin and the Rooney family can do whatever they wanna do. Pittsburgh has earned the right, Mike Tomlin has earned the right. I don’t think that he will ever get fired. If he wants to move on, he can; if he doesn’t, he’ll be the coach for the next five years.”
“As far as the hot seat, Mike McDaniel is there, Raheem Morris is gonna be there, I’m not sure what they’re gonna do in Arizona, the Kyler Murray situation is very intriguing. Off the top of my mind, those are the ones that jump out.”
When McFarland was asked about NFL injuries such as concussions and ACLs, Josh Petry would ask McFarland, “We are heading in the right direction with concussions as far as the guardian caps and lessening them, but it seems like we take one step forward with head injuries and two steps back when it comes to ACL injuries. What can the league do about the knee injuries?”
McFarland would say, “The Guardian caps have been a tool to help players get fewer concussions, but as far as ACLs, I just think it’s the nature of the beast. There is really nothing you can do. Offensive linemen wear the big knee braces, but you aren’t going to get running backs and wide receivers to wear those because they’re too bulky.” McFarland would also say, “When you look at the league, there are probably 20 to 30 players when you look at the ratio, the last time I checked, of 2600 players, so I think that’s a pretty good ratio.”
