Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Jalna police have rolled out an AI-powered crime and criminal database that automates FIR extraction, builds detailed offender profiles and enables advanced searches based on modus operandi, location and crime history in a major step toward technology-driven policing.Prior to the use of AI, each task would be manually carried out, taking long hours and with the possibility of human error. Senior officers said the system has strengthened both investigation speed and data accuracy, with over 450 profiles updated in the past month alone.Superintendent of police Ajaykumar Bansal said the new system has already transformed routine documentation and suspect tracking. “The AI platform has brought unmatched efficiency to IR and chargesheet processing. It extracts crucial information within seconds and immediately flags repeat offenders. This helps our teams respond faster and with more accuracy,” he said. The tool allows direct uploads of FIRs and chargesheets. It scans complainant’s details, accused people, incident description and procedural entries and automatically fills the required columns and generates the daily crime report (DCR) in the director general’s approved format. When a chargesheet is uploaded it is compared with the FIR, changes are highlighted and arrest-related details are updated, including notices under Section 35(1), arrests, or anticipatory bail status. Officers can manually edit entries where needed.Additional SP Ayush Nopany said the automated verification has reduced clerical errors. “Earlier, multiple rounds of manual data entry consumed valuable investigation time. Now, the system cross-checks, alerts us about discrepancies, and ensures that every detail recorded is consistent and complete,” he said. The database also streamlines preventive policing. Officers can add preventive action information by entering the crime number and police station name, after which all names from the FIR appear for selection. Bond amounts, bond periods, externment orders and detentions under the MPDA Act are automatically linked to the individual’s criminal profile. The criminal profile module is among the most advanced components, incorporating photographs, crime history, interrogation notes, known habits, visible markings, physical descriptions, and suggestions based on modus operandi. Each profile displays a completion percentage, helping senior officers monitor data quality. The search engine allows targeted queries based on modus operandi, police station, residential address, or number of offences. Results show the suspect’s name, gender, age, Aadhaar number, number of crimes and profile completion status.Range special IGP Virendra Mishra described the system as a model for future policing. “This AI-based database is a forward-looking initiative. It will make crime analysis sharper, prevent repeat offences more effectively, and support evidence-based policing across the range,” he said.Officials said the Jalna district will continue upgrading the database in the coming months, aiming for complete digitisation of criminal records and seamless integration of all police stations into the system.
