- ‘Israel’ has withdrawn troops to positions behind the Yellow Line in Gaza.
- Army chief Zamir described the line as a “new border” and a forward defense for ‘Israeli’ communities.
- The withdrawal follows the US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas.
‘Israel’s’ army chief, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, said on Sunday that the line behind which ‘Israeli’ forces have withdrawn in Gaza, known as the Yellow Line, should be considered a “new border,” according to a military statement.
Speaking to reserve soldiers stationed in Gaza, Zamir said, “We have operational control over extensive parts of the Gaza Strip and we will remain on those defence lines. The Yellow Line is a new border line, serving as a forward defensive line for our communities and a line of operational activity.”
The announcement comes after ‘Israeli’ troops pulled back to positions behind the Yellow Line as part of the US-brokered ceasefire between ‘Israel’ and Hamas. The line marks the boundary of ‘Israel’s’ defensive positions, while the military maintains operational control over other areas of the Gaza Strip.
