IndiGo Flights Disruption: Over 250 Cancellations at Delhi and Bengaluru Airports on Day 7

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) registered 127 IndiGo flights cancellations today, including 65 arrivals and 62 departures, ANI reported.

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) registered 77 IndiGo flights cancellations today, including 38 arrivals and 39 departures, ANI reported.

Ahmedabad Airport registered 18 IndiGo flight cancellations by 8:00 AM on Monday, including 9 arrivals and 9 departures, ANI reported.

A petition was filed before the Delhi High Court for urgent hearing on the IndiGo crisis issue. On Monday, the Court on listed the PIL for hearing on 10 December. It sought customer redressal over massive IndiGo flight cancellations. The plea also sought directions to the Centre to provide support and refunds to affected passengers. The matter will be presided over by a bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, PTI reported.

Bengaluru airport registered 117 flight cancellations on Monday — 65 arrivals and 62 departures, PTI reported.

At the Delhi airport, nearly 134 flights were cancelled, including 75 departures and 59 arrivals, PTI reported.

More than 250 IndiGo flights were cancelled from Delhi and Bengaluru airports on 8 December as the disruptions continue for the seventh straight day, PTI reported.

Trichy airport witnessed 11 cancellations on Sunday, including 5 arrivals and 6 departures cancelled.

On 8 December, IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation’s share price continued to fall, tanked nearly 7% in trading session after the Delhi Airport said that IndiGo flights may continue to experience delays and after receiving show cause notice from aviation watch dog last week.

Air India and Air India Express, have rolled out fares as prescribed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) across its reservation systems for economy class tickets, the company informed in a post on social media.

As per the official Air India account on X (formerly Twitter), the airline will also provide refunds for differential amounts for those who paid higher during the transition period.

Agartala airport recorded 6 IndiGo flights cancellations on Sunday, including those scheduled to depart for Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Bangalore and Imphal, ANI reported.

A total of 18 flights at Pune Airport have been cancelled for 8 December, ANI reported.

Ahmedabad, which is a major urban centre for air travel, recorded relatively low flight cancellations on 7 December, totalling 27 flights, including 16 arrivals and 11 departures, ANI reported.

Kolkata recorded nearly 76 flight cancellations, including 53 departures and 23 arrivals, ANI reported.

The Delhi Airport registered 109 flight cancellations on 7 December, including 59 departures and 50 arrivals, ANI reported.

Telangana’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad recorded highest — 115 flights cancellation on Sunday, including 54 arrivals and 61 departures, ANI reported.

IndiGo said that it is on track to stabilise its network by December 10.On Sunday, nearly 400 flights were cancelled, ANI reported.

IndiGo’s operations have resumed at 137 out of 138 destinations, but disruption continues for the seventh straight day.

“We boarded a flight for Bhubaneswar from Abu Dhabi on 6th December…Since 6th December, we have been stranded at the Mumbai Airport…They (IndiGo) are not helping us in any way…,” Manas Kumar told news agency ANI on Sunday.

Aviation watchdog DGCA on Sunday gave more time to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and the Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras to submit their responses to the show causes notices seeking their explanations on the flight disruptions.

Both have been granted 24 hours more or time till 6 pm on Monday to submit their replies, a senior official said on Sunday. (PTI)

On DGCA’s show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO, Aviation Expert Sharath Panicker says, “… The Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) began last year, with its effective date around 1 July 2024. Once the requirement was promulgated, it became law under the domestic framework of the country. Every airline in the country was aware of the new regulation, which primarily addresses the issue of crew member fatigue…”

The Punjab government on Sunday set up a round-the-clock control room at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport to facilitate passengers amid IndiGo’s flight disruptions.

The civil aviation secretary said that for any sort of assistance, the passengers can contact the helpline number 95010-15832, adding that people can register their queries on the official social media handles of Chandigarh International Airport Limited.

Punjab Civil Aviation Secretary Sonali Giri said that passengers can also call at helpline numbers, including 92899 38532 of IndiGo Airlines, 8800197833/0172-2242201 of Air India, 92055 08549 of Air India Express, 98184 28648 of Alliance Air for redressal of their issues, PTI reported.

IndiGo will carry out a “root cause analysis” into the flight disruptions that has happened due to a combination of factors and the focus now is to stabilise operations, which is expected by December 10, a senior airline official said on Sunday.

The budget carrier cancelled over 220 flights at Mumbai and Delhi airports as per reports.
