IITM C-DOT Samgnya Applied sciences Basis Launched by DST Secretary Prof. Abhay Karandikar

On December 10, 2025, Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Division of Science and Know-how (DST) below the Ministry of Science & Know-how(MoS&T), nearly inaugurated Indian Institute of Know-how -Madras (IIT-M), Centre for Improvement of Telematics (C-DOT) Samgnya Applied sciences Basis, India’s Nationwide Hub for Quantum communication, on the IIT Madras Analysis Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN).

• This basis has been established below the Nationwide Quantum Mission (NQM), an initiative by the Authorities of India (GoI).

About Nationwide Hub for Quantum communication: 

Collaboration: The IITM C‑DOT Samgnya Applied sciences Basis will lead India’s work in quantum-secure communication by working with universities, business, and world companions.

Focus: It’ll concentrate on Quantum Cryptography and Publish-Quantum Safety; Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Networks; Quantum Reminiscence and Repeaters;  and Satellite tv for pc-based Quantum Communication.

Significance: This initiative marks India’s first devoted national-level hub targeted on quantum communication applied sciences below NQM. It is without doubt one of the 4 thematic hubs established below NQM. The opposite three thematic hubs embrace

• Quantum Computing Hub at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru (Karnataka)
• Quantum Sensing & Metrology Hub at Indian Institute of Know-how (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai (Maharashtra)
• Quantum Supplies & Gadgets Hub at IIT Delhi, New Delhi (Delhi).

Key Actions:

Analysis and Improvement: The hub will develop indigenous quantum-communication {hardware}, construct QKD programs suitable with telecom networks, and create satellite-based quantum-communication prototypes.

Pilot Tasks: The hub will arrange fibre-based quantum-communication testbeds, conduct satellite-to-ground QKD experiments, and deploy safe communication options for presidency and business.

Commercialisation Focus: The hub will help deep-tech startups, work with C-DOT, telecom operators, and defence organisations, and have interaction buyers to hurry up commercialisation and deployment of quantum applied sciences.

Ability Improvement: It’ll prepare engineers, researchers, and Physician of Philosophy (PhD) students by providing specialised quantum-technology programs and organizing nationwide workshops and analysis programmes.

About Nationwide Quantum Mission:

Launch: NQM was permitted by the Union Cupboard on 19 April 2023, with a complete price range of Rs.6,003.65 crores for the interval of 8 years from Monetary Yr 2023-24 (FY24) to FY31.

Quantum Innovation: NQM goals to seed, nurture, and scale up scientific and industrial analysis & improvement in quantum know-how and to construct a powerful nationwide ecosystem for quantum innovation.
