Escalating Tensions: Thailand’s Air Strikes Target Cambodia Amid Border Clash

Border clash: Thailand launches air strikes on Cambodia; tensions flare — what we know

Thailand has launched airstrikes along its contested border with Cambodia, escalating a volatile standoff that had already deepened after Bangkok suspended a fragile ceasefire last week. The flare-up comes after a Thai soldier lost a foot to a landmine on the frontier, with Bangkok alleging that Cambodia had planted new devices, a claim Phnom Penh rejects. Skirmishes on November 15 left one Cambodian man dead and several others injured near Prey Chan village, the same area that saw a tense confrontation earlier this year. Cambodia accused Thailand of “numerous provocative actions”, while Thailand said Cambodian troops had fired into Sa Kaeo province, prompting warning shots. The July ceasefire was brokered by Malaysia, China and the United States after five days of fighting that killed dozens and displaced hundreds of thousands.
