North Texas coach Eric Morris will lead his Mean Green into Friday night’s American Conference Championship game with a College Football Playoff bid on the line. After that? He’ll either be in the CFP or Stillwater.
The UNT coach has already been hired to become Oklahoma State’s next head coach. And The Oklahoman’s Joe Mussatto says OSU fans should be rooting for the Mean Green tonight.
“The positive exposure Eric Morris could bring to OSU football with North Texas in the CFP is unquantifiable, but my bet is that it far outweighs the benefit of Morris being in Stillwater full time starting Saturday versus starting two weeks from Saturday,” Mussatto wrote.
“The perception of OSU football has plummeted. Morris leading North Texas to the CFP would give the Cowboys a jolt.”
UNT has already announced Morris’ replacement, as former West Virginia and Troy coach Neal Brown will be next up in Denton.
“Football in Texas is special and my family and I can’t wait to pour everything we have into the North Texas campus and Denton,” Brown said. “Most importantly, our program will always be a player-driven program, and I look forward to getting to know this team and building our roster for the future! For now, let’s all get behind the Mean Green as they prepare to win an American Conference Championship.”
Will Neal Brown coach North Texas in American Championship today?
No. Eric Morris will still lead the Mean Green in Friday night’s game against Tulane.
