FT: Hull City 1-4 Middlesbrough

Boro celebrate their third goal at HullImage source, Shutterstock

Boro have breathing space in the second automatic promotion spot this weekend, while Hull will likely lose ground in the play-off race off the back of a thumping Friday night defeat at a wet and wild MKM Stadium.

Three goals in 12 minutes before half-time ended the game as a contest, the recalled Alex Gilbert firing in from distance, Morgan Whittaker curling home another and Riley McGree poking in to make it 4-0 after David Strelec had lashed in an early opener.

Hull were sloppy in possession before the break, as ruthless as Boro were, but the Tigers improved after the interval and Joe Gelhardt won and converted a penalty after going down under the challenge of keeper Sol Brynn to reduce the arrears slightly.

Two wins from two for Kim Hellberg, though. and things are looking up for Boro.

Hull could have gone third but instead will be looking up at the play-offs from mid-table by tea-time.
