GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Bears were looking pretty healthy on defense heading into their game Sunday against the Packers — until pre-game warmups.
Nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon was scratched just before kickoff after hurting his groin while warming up and missed his 10th game of the season. The Bears played veteran C.J. Gardner-Johnson, whom they signed in October to fill in for Gordon, in his place. Gardner-Johnson ended the Packers’ opening possession with an interception and set the offense up with the ball at the Green Bay 36-yard line.
Gordon was out for the first four games because of a hamstring injury, returned for two games, then missed five games with a calf injury. He came off injured reserve to play against the Eagles on Nov. 28 and practiced all week with no issues.
It’s been a tough season for Gordon after signing a three-year, $40 million contract extension in April that made him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL. He has played three games and has seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
