After being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2020, running back D’Andre Swift has played for two more franchises, including his current team, the Chicago Bears, in his second season, following a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. After Philadelphia replaced Swift with Saquon Barkley in free agency, the back found a home with the Bears.
Swift had a solid season in 2024, and he picked up where he left off in 2025 with another solid campaign. However, pressure from rookie Kyle Monangai has eaten into his touches. Despite a huge outing against the Eagles in Week 13, Swift has struggled, getting off to a slow start against the Green Bay Packers in Week 14.
What Happened to Chicago Bears RB D’Andre Swift?
Against Philadelphia on Black Friday in Week 13, Swift ran all over the Eagles, turning 18 carries into 125 yards and one touchdown. The outing contributed to an impressive 2025 total, in which he has carried the ball 160 times for 774 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also caught 25 of 36 targets for 237 yards and another trip to the end zone.
However, he’s struggled to find much success against the suffocating Packers defensive front, turning four carries into 18 yards against Green Bay through the first two quarters as the Bears find themselves in a 14-3 hole. He has hauled in two receptions for 11 more yards, but the running back is struggling to find much space. He does have a higher average yards per carry than Monangai, who has rushed eight times for 25 yards.

While Swift maintains his hold on the RB1 slot for now, Monangai is lurking. He, too, had an outstanding performance against the Eagles, turning 22 carries into 130 yards and a touchdown. He also enters the Week 14 matchup against the Packers having a touchdown in the last four games.
Despite leading the NFC, the Bears do not have a top-ten defense according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, ranking 11th in the NFL with a score of 77.9.
Meanwhile, Swift and Monangai are the highest-ranked running back pair in PFSN’s RB Impact metric, ranked 7th and 14th, respectively. Swift earned a score of 83 while Monangai earned a score of 80.3.
Getting this duo going would do wonders for the Bears’ offense and their chances to win, as they sit just 11 points behind Green Bay after the first half. Can Bears head coach Ben Johnson get his unit going in the second half?
