Meta Acquires Limitless: Innovating AI-Driven Recording Technology

Meta’s Limitless acqusition shows that the company is planning a family of AI-hardware devices beyond the Ray-Ban smart glasses

Meta has acquired Limitless, the AI startup responsible for a clip-on, pendant-style wearable that can record conversations and generate AI-powered summaries. The acquisition was confirmed by Limitless CEO Dan Siroker in a corporate blog post. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Siroker wrote that Meta’s growing vision is “to bring personal superintelligence to everyone,” a future in which AI-enabled wearables play a central role and Limitless will be joining Meta to help make that vision a reality.

Launched in 2024 with a starting price of about $99, the pendant from Limitless was designed to improve productivity by capturing conversations and using generative AI to produce concise summaries helping users recall meetings or analyze past interactions easily.

Meta’s move to acquire Limitless marks another step in strengthening its push into AI-powered hardware. Under the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta has been expanding its hardware lineup beyond smartphones. The unexpected success of the Ray-Ban AI glasses which integrate voice-based AI assistance and a built-in camera has boosted confidence in building a broader ecosystem of intelligent devices.

Despite mixed results with its bigger ambitions like the Metaverse, Meta continues to invest heavily in hardware development. Recent hires including a prominent designer from a rival tech giant signal commitment toward refining the next generation of AI-driven products.

Meta isn’t the only company exploring wearable AI: several startups such as Friend, Plaud and Bee (the latter acquired recently by Amazon) are working on similar devices. But with Limitless now under its wing, Meta seems poised to take a leading role in bringing conversation-recording wearables to a broader market.
