Malayalam actor Dileep has shared his first public reaction after being acquitted in the 2017 actor assault case, marking the end of a legal battle that extended for nearly nine years. Addressing those who supported him, Dileep stated, “Thank you to those who supported me, thank you to all those who stood by me for 9 years.”
Dileep alleged that the origins of the case against him stemmed from statements made by his former spouse, Manju. He explained, “The conspiracy started when Manju (actor and his ex-wife) said it was a conspiracy.” He added that after these statements, law enforcement authorities became involved and advanced the case further.
The actor described in detail how, according to him, the case was built against him. “A senior police officer and his associates then implemented things,” Dileep said, directly implicating certain members of the police force in the progression of the case.
Providing further context, Dileep continued, “The police team made a false story by gathering the main accused and his associates in jail. The media was used to spread the false story on social media,” indicating how the narrative circulated beyond the legal domain.
The actor asserted that these alleged fabrications did not stand up in court. “The false story created by the police team failed in court.” He went on to say, “The real conspiracy was to make me an accused. It was done to destroy my image and life.”
Expressing gratitude after his acquittal, Dileep concluded, “Thank you to everyone who was with me. I sincerely thank those who prayed.”
Dileep was the eighth accused in the 2017 Malayalam actor assault case which was centered around the incident where she was abducted by six men and assaulted in a moving car. Judge Varghese convicted six other people accused under criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, assault to outrage modesty, abduction, attempt to disrobe and gang rape charges.
