Acclaimed director and comedic drive Richard Ayoade returned to the Sundance Movie Pageant along with his darkish doppelgänger thriller The Double, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska. Throughout a press cease for the movie, Ayoade leaned into his signature deadpan wit, claiming a “deep connection” and a burgeoning bromance with competition founder Robert Redford. The director joked that the Hollywood legend had given him a very hot welcome, playfully suggesting that their relationship had reached a stage of intimacy hardly ever seen between filmmakers and the competition’s patriarch. This marked Ayoade’s second main look on the competition, following the success of his debut function Submarine three years prior.
