IndiGo Implements Comprehensive Measures for Refunds Amid Delhi and Mumbai Flight Cancellations

“…You are directed to show cause within 24 hours of receipt of this notice as to why appropriate enforcement action should not be initiated against you under the relevant provisions of the Aircraft Rules and Civil Aviation Requirements for the violations. Failure to submit your reply within the stipulated period shall result in the matter being decided ex parte,” it said in the notice.

IndiGo flights cancelled live: Union minister of state for civil aviation and cooperation Murlidhar Mohol on Sunday said that they are closely monitoring the situation and have taken immediate action against the airline for not adhering to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL).

“The reason behind the situation that formed 4 days back, the chaos was that IndiGo and its management did not take this seriously. Through DGCA, we took immediate action. We appointed a 4-member investigation committee, a 24/7 control room was set up, and we kept FDTL regulations in abeyance until February 2026. DGCA has issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO, and a response has been sought within 24 hours,” he said.

IndiGo flights cancelled live: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will be running special trains to clear passenger rush in view of flight disruptions, its chief spokesperson said on Sunday.

Two special trains — one each from Dibrugarh to New Delhi, and Guwahati to Howrah — would run on Monday, the CPRO said. “Further, 20 coaches will be attached to 18 different trains to help clear the rush of passengers. These trains are running on different sectors,” he added.

The committee will submit its findings and recommendations to the DGCA within 15 days to enable necessary regulatory enforcement action and ensure institutional strengthening, the order said.

“The Board of Directors of Interglobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) met on the first day the problem of cancellations and delayed flights arose. The members received a detailed briefing from the Management on the nature and extent of the crisis.

This meeting was followed up with a session confined to only Board members at which, it was decided to set up a Crisis Management Group (CMG) comprising amongst others the Chairman, Vikram Singh Mehta; Board Directors, Gregg Saretsky, Mike Whitaker and Amitabh Kant, and the CEO Pieter Elbers.

This Group has been meeting regularly to monitor the situation and is being constantly updated by the Management of the measures being undertaken to restore normal operations. In addition, there have been multiple telephonic discussions, including with Directors who are not members of the CMG.

The objective of these meetings and exchanges is to address, as quickly as practically possible, the hardships suffered by our customers and other stakeholders while also restoring operational integrity across the airline’s network expeditiously.

The Board of Directors is doing everything possible to take care of the challenges faced by our customers and to ensure refunds on cancellation and offer waivers on cancellation/ rescheduling during the period of crisis.”

IndiGo flights cancelled live: In a fresh statement issued on Sunday, an IndiGo spokesperson said that its Board of Directors met on the first day the problem of cancellations and delayed flights arose. “This Group has been meeting regularly to monitor the situation and is being constantly updated by the Management of the measures being undertaken to restore normal operations. IndiGo flights cancelled live: SpiceJet has announced 22 additional flights from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata for today (December 7) and a few other regions as IndiGo continues to face operational crisis.

IndiGo flights cancelled live: The civil aviation ministry said disruptions in flight operations of one of the scheduled airlines has resulted in flight cancellations, leading to capacity constraints and unreasonable surge in the fares on a number of sectors.

The fare limits, excluding applicable charges, are not applicable for business class and UDAN flights, the civil aviation ministry said in an order.

Under the limits, for a flight flying up to 500 kilometres, the fares are capped at ₹7,500 and for 500-1,000 kilometres, the ticket price cap is ₹12,000. For flights operating 1,000-1,500 kilometres, the fares are limited at ₹15,000 and for above, 1,500 kilometres, the cap is ₹18,000.

THE RULE: Defined “night duty” as any work period touching 12 am to 6 am. This extension was designed to capture the “Window of Circadian Low” -the biological period when human alertness is lowest.

THE EXEMPTION: Reverts definition to 12am-5 am for IndiGo’s A320 fleet.

THE RULE: Pilots flying during the night window were strictly capped at two landings to minimise high-risk manoeuvres while fatigued.

THE EXEMPTION: Suspends the two-landing limit entirely for IndiGo.

THE RULE: Mandated a continuous 48-hour weekly rest period that could not include annual leave days, ensuring pilots received genuine recovery time

THE EXEMPTION: Restriction on leave substitution for all operators, not just IndiGo, withdrawn

THE RULE: Imposed strict duty-time reductions for any flight encroaching on the critical 2am to 6am window.

THE EXEMPTION: By suspending the specific night duty cap for domestic operations, the penalty for flying through these hours is effectively nullified.
