Owens celebrated the invitation as a victory and responded assertively, saying, “You can pick the place. You can pick the time. I say we do it tomorrow. We don’t need to plan for this… I want it to be authentic.”Critics argue that Owens’ tone changed dramatically once TPUSA followed through. Owens took issue with two points. One is the requirement for an-person appearance in Phoenix. The other is that the livestream seems to clash with when Owens hosts her own podcast. She also expressed irritation over only learning of the announcement on social media. She wrote on X, “Kind of weird how you didn’t e-mail or call me to ask about times or availability and chose to instead tweet this confirmation out at midnight. Why am I learning about this on X? December 15th does not work in-person and 2pm PT is also literal time I do my podcast LIVE everyday (which you knew)— but we will happily cancel the daily podcast and will join you guys virtually instead for the livestream on the 15th if that works on your end? “One critic wrote, “TPUSA gives her a time and place and she can’t do it. HER OWN WORDS! She’s a liar and a con artist.”Another user echoed the same sentiment, pointing out that Owens had claimed she wanted the debate “immediately” and “authentic,” yet objected once the logistics no longer favored her.
