Taking a major technological leap in public safety and real-time crowd intelligence, the Nagpur city police have launched an AI-powered crowd management system ‘AI Nirikshak’ on a pilot basis ahead of the Maharashtra Winter Assembly Session, which is set to begin from December 8.
The newly launched platform integrates advanced computer vision, AI-video analytics, heat mapping, and real-time surveillance, enabling police to monitor, detect, and respond instantly to emerging crowd risks.
The system offers AI-powered crowd density detection, which is heatmap-based hotspot detection and prediction of potential congestion zones, also includes multi-source data fusion from CCTVs, mobile vans, and drones.
The system also has another key capability called ‘Risk Flag Alerts’, that identifies weapons (knife, gun, sharp objects) on a real-time basis, sends instant alerts for abnormal or suspicious activity and auto-tracks suspects across multiple cameras. Another capability of this system is object-based alerts, which includes detection of unattended bags, restricted-zone violations and barricade breaches, reverse movement and abnormal group formation.
The tool also supports facial recognition for watchlist and suspect detection. It alerts for watchlisted individuals entering sensitive zones, real-time movement tracking and integration with police databases.
The system also has vehicle alerts in restricted zones, detection of unauthorized vehicles in VIP routes and no-entry roads. Another capability of the tool is crowd footfall measurement, which helps in real-time count of people entering/exiting each gate and helps optimize manpower deployment.
The system is powered by Microsoft Azure, Click2Cloud’s AI Orchestration Engine, and integrated CCTV/digital surveillance networks.
