Bob Stoops Concludes Teaching Journey Following UFL Tenure

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who led the Sooners to a nationwide championship and 10 Huge 12 titles throughout his 18 seasons, stated Monday that he’s retiring.

Stoops, 65, served as head coach of the UFL’s Dallas Renegades for the previous 4 years.

“After a lot thought and reflection, I’ve made the choice to retire from teaching and step away from the sport of soccer,” Stoops stated in a press release launched by the UFL. “Teaching has been one of many biggest honors of my life, and shutting this chapter comes with plenty of gratitude. …

“Thanks for permitting me to be a part of this unimaginable sport for thus a few years.”

Stoops posted a 191-48 file at Oklahoma, successful the 2000 BCS nationwide championship. He retired from faculty teaching in 2017 however returned because the Sooners’ interim coach in 2021 when Lincoln Riley left for USC.

Stoops joined the XFL in 2019 and returned when the league restarted in 2021. In 2023, the Renegades gained the XFL championship. He has coached the previous two years within the rebranded UFL.
