Taking ahead the GEO-7 name for a “whole-of-government and whole-of-society” strategy, Sahu described how Tamil Nadu operationalised these ideas via the creation of India’s first state-owned, not-for-profit Tamil Nadu Inexperienced Local weather Firm (TNGCC). “We realised a whole-of-government strategy may be very troublesome when departments operate in silos,” she stated. “So we created a local weather firm whose board contains all ministries—finance, power, agriculture, forests—guaranteeing accountability and coordinated motion.”
She defined that this construction allowed Tamil Nadu to run 4 large-scale local weather missions in “pressing, mission mode”: the Inexperienced Tamil Nadu Mission, the Local weather Change Mission, the Wetlands Mission, and the Coastal Restoration Mission. Collectively, these missions have enabled the plantation of over 110 million native bushes, 2,400 hectares of latest mangrove creation, 1,200 hectares of mangrove rejuvenation, and systematic mapping and restoration of wetlands throughout districts.
Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s 1,068-km shoreline, she famous that the state is restoring bioshields, strengthening coastal resilience and inserting native and indigenous communities on the centre of local weather decision-making.
