Jayson Tatum has a future teammate on his mind.

The Boston Celtics star, 27, discussed the possibility of playing in the NBA with his first child, son Deuce, when the seven year old is old enough to join the league — even if that means playing in the league for 10 more years.

“He turns 8, I’m 27, it’s like, ‘Man, can I play 10 more years?’ ” Tatum pondered ahead of his son’s Dec. 6 birthday while in conversation with twins Marcus and Markieff Morris on “The Morris Code” stream on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

“I can easily do that. I mean, if it were to work out, that would be cool,” the NBA All-Star said of playing with Deuce, who he welcomed with his high school girlfriend, Toriah Lachell, in December 2017.

In March last year, Tatum — who welcomed his second child, son Dylan, with British singer Ella Mai in 2024 — told PEOPLE exclusively that Deuce is “starting to fall in love” with basketball.

“He just started playing basketball on the organized team,” the NBA Championship winner told PEOPLE of his eldest son, whose full name is Jayson “Deuce” Christopher Tatum Jr. “So he’s really starting to fall in love with the game. It’s exciting to see that.”

While there have been dozens of father-son duos who’ve played in the NBA, LeBron James and son Bronny James are the first and only pair to play together on the same team. Should Deuce join his dad in the NBA one decade from now — and no other fathers and sons beat them to it — they’d be the second duo.

Celtics fans are no stranger to Deuce, who is often found sitting court side in support or walking the tunnels alongside his dad before and after games. Not to mention, he’s almost always rocking Celtics green or a mini version of Tatum’s jersey.

Tatum told PEOPLE that Deuce even picks out his own outfit for game days, following in his dad’s stylish footsteps.

“His favorite thing is to look in the mirror and be like, ‘Daddy, look, I’m fresh-fresh,’ ” the player told PEOPLE at the time. “He says that now that he’s gotten older. His personality is starting to grow. He’s taking more ownership in the things he wants to wear.”

Tatum also revealed to PEOPLE how sons Deuce and Dylan “kept [his] spirits up” amid the agony of his first injury after he ruptured his Achilles tendon.

“Deuce,” Tatum said to his son, pointing to the players he was watching on the tablet, “You think Daddy’s going come back and be able to do that again?”

Deuce gave his dad a look as if to say, “Dumb question.”

“Of course,” the boy told him. Said Tatum of his son’s confidence: “I really needed that. There have been plenty of moments during this when I doubted myself. My son thinks I can do anything.”
