South Carolina’s offensive coordinator search could be nearing its conclusion.
Football Scoop was first to report that Kendal Briles has emerged as the focus on Shane Beamer’s search. JC Shurburtt confirmed the reporting on Friday afternoon. Jimmy Smith is a name to keep an eye on for the vacant running back coach job.
Briles has been the offensive coordinator at TCU since 2023. His previous stops include Arkansas (2020-22), Florida State (2019) and Houston (2018). He worked at Baylor from 2008-16.
Smith, a Darlington, S.C. native, played college ball at Tennessee State. He worked as a high school coach before entering the college level. Smith began working at Arkansas in 2020 before joining the TCU staff in 2024. He was on staff at Georgia State in 2019.
Shane Beamer has fired three offensive coaches over the last couple of months. Offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley was first, followed by offensive coordinator Mike Shula and running backs coach Marquel Blackwell.
